Today, Boston's Fourth of July is known as the premier Independence Day celebration in the nation. Each year, since its inception, hundreds of thousands of people come from all over the country to the banks of the Charles River to celebrate America's birthday. Actually, surveys show 34 percent of the live audience comes to the event from outside New England!

Every Fourth of July, the area along the Charles River in Boston is filled with many people who gather to enjoy the historic annual Fourth of July celebration. The Pops concert begins at 8 p.m. and the fireworks follow it for 30 minutes. To enjoy this evening event, people crowd onto the riverbank throughout the day to get the best seats possible.

It's a good idea to learn about the event in advance. You can access area information, the concert program, the list of performers, the music scores for the background music played during the fireworks, and other useful information at the official Boston's Fourth of July Web site, http://www.july4th.org.

Some of the must-have information on this Web site is about the restricted "Hatch Shell Oval Area," the area with the best seats for viewing the evening festivities. The page is located under General Event Information - Event Restrictions. An example of the page that was posted for the 2002 celebration is shown below.

If you are going to stake out the restricted Hatch Shell Oval Area, you should keep this information handy for you to prepare for the day. To save it in your Palm, select the text by dragging your mouse, right-click, and select Save To Palm in the shortcut menu.

You can also save the large map as an image file. Simply right-click on the large image of the map and select Save To Palm.

Event schedules and programs will soon be posted online. Once they are posted, you can save them to your Palm so that you can access them at the riverbank while you wait. For example, below is an image of the 2002 fireworks music scores Web page (it was located under Fireworks - The Score). To save this list to your Palm, select the text by dragging your mouse, right-clicking, and selecting Save To Palm in the shortcut menu.

With this information handy, you won't need to be embarrassed when your friend or a small child asks the title of the music that accompanies the beautiful fireworks. Just take a glance at your Palm... you will be able to answer them confidently.
